Born to be a mermaid

Hello,

It's Challenge time again over at the Heart's Quest Fantasy Challenge Blog.  As always it starts the first Saturday of the month, and  lasts for about a month. I do hope that you'll join us there.

The theme of the Challenge, as always, is Fantasy, however as long as it's Fantasy pretty much anything goes. Sometime last year, while on holiday in the US, I bought a pad of Mermaids themed papers by Graphic 45. So decided to use that to make a second card.

Mythical mermaid

Hello,

Welcome to another Challenge over at the Heart's Quest Fantasy Challenge Blog.  As always it starts the first Saturday of the month, and as usual it lasts for about a month. I do hope that you'll join us.

The theme of the Challenge is Fantasy, however as long as it's Fantasy pretty much anything goes. If you're not sure what we mean by that just check out the guidance in the Challenge Rules, and in the side bar on the Challenge blog.

We also now have optional monthly themes and this month it's Mermaids. I decided to use a new mermaid die I bought at a craft show I went to quite recently. The die is a very large one, so I've made a piece of home decor from it and put it in a 10 x 12 inch frame. It's now hanging on the wall in my craft room.

Back in October 2023 I won a prize from LeighSBDesigns for my Magical Fairies card, which I entered into the Creative Inspiration ChallengeI was featured as her Fan Feature Guest for March with that card. For this picture I have used papers from Leigh's Mermaze Digi Paper Pack. I have used Caribbean Depths for the mat behind the mermaid die, and Caribbean Bubbles for the main backing paper I am thrilled to be Leigh's Fan Feature Guest again, for July, on the LeighSBDesigns Inspiration Blog

Card recipe

10 x 12 picture frame with a white mount
Creative Expressions Papercuts Mythical Mermaid die
LeighSBDesigns Caribbean Depths from the Mermaze Digi Paper Pack
LeighSBDesigns Caribbean Bubbles from the Mermaze Digi Paper Pack
Press Cut plain oval and stitch dot oval dies
Create and Craft Sea Siren die set for the ferns, shells and starfish
Cut and Make mini die for the large sea shell
Sentiment from the Polkadoodles Mermazing Winnie set
Craft Artist Mica Magic to colour the mermaid's face
Spectrum Noir Colour Blend pencils 014 Bumble bee, 015 Canary, 018 Honey

I hope you like the picture I've made, it looks really great on my craft room wall. Please leave a comment to let me know what you think if you've got time, I do appreciate them and like to read them.

White card for a mat
Spectrum Noir sparkle pen to add a bit of sparkle to the mermaid's tail
Papermania ink to edge the card and stamping the sentiment which is a magazine freebie
Spellbinders die to cut the sentiment out
Blue American Crafts sparkly brads which looked a bit like the colour of the sea
White net ribbon

Mermaid wishes - under the sea

Hello,
this is my DT card for the Fairy and Unicorn Challenge this month, which is anything goes with the option of under the sea.

I started with a white 8 x 8 card blank on to which I layered a pale yellow mat. The free gift in a recent issue of Cardmaking and Papercraft was some Mermaid wishes papers and stamps so I used one of the papers as another mat on the card front. Using the Create and Craft Couture Sea Siren die set I cut the mermaid, some starfish and seashells from golden yellow card, and 3 sets of seaweed from dark sea green card. Using the oval die from Tonic's Art Nouveau die set I cut a base from the pale yellow card and the detail from light sea green card.

I used a Spectrum Noir sparkle pen to add some sparkle to the mermaid's tail. I layered the detail die cut on to the base mat, then added the sea weed, mermaid and a few starfish to the topper. I then adhered the topper to the right side of the card using foam pads.

I stamped the sentiment, then using the Tonic Bowscale die cut that out and also a mat from the pale sea green card. This was attached to the top left of the card using foam pads. I then dotted the golden yellow starfish and seashells about the card front.

Thanks for stopping by, please join us at the Fairy and Unicorn Challenge.
